New to stranded knitting and following the excellent instruction in the class but I have a question…when Lorilee spreads out the stitches with her right hand to keep the floats loose…is it best to do right after you change colors? Or a stitch or two after that? Or does that matter?
I do that as I change the color so the float is long before you knit the new color. I also find it helpful to turn the work inside out so the floats are on the outside. You still knit the same way, but the “tube” inside the circular needles has the right side inside and the wrong side outside.
Thank you for your very helpful response. If I do try knitting with the work inside out, do I still try to make the floats loose, or instead knit them in a normal way?
I still spread the stitches to try to keep them loose. This just helps that along if that makes sense.
Looking forward to trying your suggestions.
If you work with the public side to the center of the tube, the floats will more naturally space out.
I would still take the time to monitor the tension.
Well, it ends up I am knitting it right side out because I think I was perhaps overdoing it a bit after trying too hard to stretch out the floats, some of the stitches look awfully big…oh well, I’m considering it a learning experience, which I’ve enjoyed a lot (and love the Lettlopi) and if it doesn’t come out right I’ll know better next time. Almost done with the stranded part and looking forward to trying it on. Thanks for the input.
Thank you!
I love seeing what everyone has done! I would like to post a photo of my Crowberry but I can’t find how to do that. Could someone kindly point me in the right direction? Thanks very much. I just love these sweaters.
It looks wonderful!
Thank you. It’s been fun to learn how to do this. : )
All you need to do to add a photo is click “Reply” and then there will be an “Upload” icon
. Click that and follow prompts from there. Hope that helps!
Okay, thanks very much. I’ll give that a try and it will probably work.
Looks great on you!
Thanks so much!
I am so happy I took this class, and it was great to be able to review the Zoom classes over and over. Doubt you’re still looking at this thread, Lorilee, but what a great instructor you are! Also, what I thought were too large stitches on my first stranded knitting attempt turned out to be just fine after I washed and blocked it.
Simply beautiful!
