Best Yarn to Use for Babies?

My daughter is pregnant and I want to knit for baby. Is superwash the way to go?

Washable for sure I think, but I knit a ton of baby sweaters in cotton too, or blends.

I really like Knitpick’s shine sport–it’s soft but durable, machine washable, knits up beautifully.

I’m a big fan of Rowan Handknit Cotton and Rowan Cotton Cashmere. (It sounds fancy but it washes up really nicely and feels so soft!)

Decide what blanket you want to knit…where do they live…when is the baby due…you can really choose anything. Silk/cotton makes a fabulous summer weight, silk/alpaca makes for a perfect stroller blanket for San Francisco…no one has ever complained that the blanket was too lovely. I just share the care instructions.

I really like Brown Sheep Co.'s Cotton Fleece, a mix of wool and cotton that is machine washable and dryable and wears like iron, but once washed is soft and drapy.

I love Debbie Bliss Baby Cashmerino. I’ve knitted 8 baby blankets from her cable blanket pattern. It’s so soft!
