What is the best, least tangly method for measuring off the 40 and 25 yards of yarn for the Striped Marl Hat? Using a yardstick sounds do-able but potentially messy. Thanks.

I use the arms-length to nose method of estimating yardage.
Also - I just knit from both ends of my skein when making the 2-strands-of-the-same sections.
