Though I have been knitting for maybe 5 years, I still feel like a beginner! I live in Dallas, TX where it is often too hot to wear many clothes, especially knitted ones, but I persevere because YARN!!!
I’ve gifted my 4 grown step-children and one grown son with blankets, as well as 4 of my grown grandchildren. I’ve also gifted friends with blankets, shawls, hats, scarves, and made my young grandchildren Christmas socks filled with goodies. I’ve also gifted my sister and her grown daughter with beautiful matching lace scarves and made one for myself too.
I knit my first sweater out of some discontinued Debbie Bliss wool and then promptly shrank it when left in the dryer too long! I have enough wool to make another and am thinking of gifting it to a grown granddaughter, but as hard as it is to take care of makes me hesitant.
I have a HUGE stash of yarn. I work hard to find projects to use my yarn rather than buy new. I started knitting several years ago when I met a new friend who knitted and invited me to a local yarn store for “Open Knit Night”. The yarn store closed more than a year ago and had big sales that I took advantage of. The last hours the store was open, she was selling skeins for one dollar a piece!!! I left with two GARBAGE BAGS full that day alone! Added to the BAGS of yarn I had purchased in the weeks prior to that day, I had to stop and buy new bins and a whole new dresser to hold them all!
I’m currently learning new techniques via YouTube and have a ZILLION projects planned where I have found the pattern, wound the yarn, and have them bagged up ready to go. Wish me luck!
