Hi, I’m Susan, and I live in Arlington, VA. I’m currently knitting the reindeer mittens from the Moss field guide. This was a very ambitious project for me, but I’m almost done with the second one and they look pretty good. I also enjoy crochet and weaving. Cheese is definitely a favorite food!
Howdy all y’all,
I’m Gabrielle and guess it goes without saying, I live in the suburbs of Fort Worth, TX. I taught myself to knit at 16 which was last century.
Socks were my first passion but moved on to scawls, scarves, and cowls. Lace knitting is irresistible to me. This leads to many whips and constant new cast ons.
The MDK Society already feels like a good new group of fellow enthusiastic yarn Lovers. I look forward to sharing with you.
I’m Mary from Oak Creek, Wisconsin, a suburb of Milwaukee. I learned to knit at age 12, but really started knitting in earnest about 28 years ago. I love colorwork, and I mostly knit shawls and cowls, but try to do a sweater or two a year. I am definitely a yarn collector – stash will definitely outlive me. Looking forward to learning from everyone in the MDK Society.
Hi there! I’m Beth from Big Sky, Montana and began knitting in earnest 20+ years ago. My passion led to becoming a yarn shop co-owner, teacher and the ability to accumulate an astonishing yarn stash by the time that I retired! I still find the need (desire, really) to patronize a local yarn shop while I work on diminishing my stash. It is lovely to have this space to chat with fellow yarn enthusiasts, thank you.
Hi, I’m Shirley from Marquette, Michigan. I always have multiple projects on the needles. The one that must be completed this weekend is a Christmas scarf gift that will get delivered in February. They’ve seen it in progress, but am thrilled to see the end in sight!
Oh I love those reindeer mittens—the stranding makes them so very insulating, which is what a person wants in a mitten. Way to power through, you’ll have them forever!
Hi Beth! So glad you’re here. LYS are so central to what knitting is all about. There’s always a feeling of a homecoming, whenever I visit a store.
Welcome, Gabrielle! Socks as your first knitting passion? All respect. It took me ten years to try a sock…
Hi Mary! Stash is one of the eternally interesting topics. Maybe that’s a thing we can talk about here. I too have a significant “archive” and I love it all—sometimes I’ll get in a mood and donate some to a local nonprofit art supply shop. But I never seem to stop loving yarn and the people who make it.

Hi, my name is Gregory, I live in Seattle, I’ve been knitting since I was 10. I recently retired from Hairdressing and have time to knit as much as I want! I also have my dream retirement job. I teach beginning knitting at my LYS. I’ve been doing it for a couple of years now and I’m having a blast. I love turning people into new knitters. Currently working on a top down raglan hoodie, the next to last project from stash. One more and I can buy new yarn. I really enjoy the diversity and acceptance of the knitting community, I’m counting on it to get me through next 4 years….
Favorite snack? Tortilla chips and Crunchy Onion Hummus from Trader Joe’s.
Hi, Diane from Minnesota here. A knitting society, what a clever idea! I’m 72 and started knitting around the age of five:) You name it, I’ve tried it. My love of knitting goes back to my days watching grandma mostly. I’m a bit like her I think. Rather reserved but a good listener. She sewed all her clothing as did my mom so of course that is something I do as well. Knitting has helped me to more patient with others. A mistake is no big deal, let’s learn from it or just enjoy taking it apart and fixing it. (Or just leaving it if it doesn’t really matter:) I’ve moved in with the oldest son’s family as I have stage 4 lung cancer. I love being about the 6 granddaughters and teaching them to sew and knitting. The oldest (10 yrs) is a self taught crocheter. I love it. Wonderful to read about you all. Happy knitting!!!
Arlington, Have you been to Fibre Space Yarn Shop? Every time I’m in DC visiting my daughter we take a day trip there.
Yes! I stocked up at their black Friday sale. They have a great selection. There’s also a really nice store closer to me, in Falls Church, called Tint, which has a lot of sewing and quilting supplies in addition to yarn. I also just got some spinning fiber there since I’m hoping to try spinning on a drop spindle.
I’ll have to check out Tint if I ever get out east again. I am also a quilter. I actually owned a quilt shop for a few years. I’m waiting for our local yarn shop to do another class on drop spindle. I’ve had my spindle for ages but never learned. Seems we’ve for a bit in common.
Hi, I’m Beverly in Oakland, CA. A bit late to the party, but very happy to be here. I’ve been knitting off and on for over 40 years as well as crocheting and sewing. I decided over a year ago to seek out new community IRL and joined a couple of knitting meetups. Best decision ever!! I’m really looking forward to having options off the socials to expand my fiber connections. I’m currently finishing up the Christmas coupon gifts so I can get back to my other WIPs - Sari Nordland’s Pas sweater, a Driftwood Tee and a pair of socks (2 at a time).
Hi, Yarnster Friends! I’m Anne and I live in Salisbury, NC. I love lots of crafts but knitting is my favorite. I’m acave on Ravelry, but I’m not good about posting FO’s. Mostly, I add to my queue of over 1600 projects. I know right?! My granny taught me to crochet as a child and I learned to knit later when I moved to NYC in the late 1970’s and found a very nice yarn shop where the ladies were helpful to me as a beginner. I think it was called Coulter Studio. I knit a cardigan for my husband out of Donegal tweed. Right now, I’m knitting the Bolin Sweater (BOAS in a month!), the Embossy Shawl, and socks from Summer Lee’s “The Sock Project.” I love traveling to yarn festivals and have been to many over the years. Can’t wait for the Nash Yarn Fest! Nashville happens to be my hometown. Thanks to MDK for everything they do! My favorite snack is probably homemade Chex Mix.
OK now you’ve brought up homemade Chex Mix, which is 100% the snack of my childhood. It’s all about the worcestershire sauce!
