Hi, I’m Gayle, I’m from Massachusetts. I am about to start an AC Poncho kit. Wish me luck as I figure this out!
I’m Patti, I currently live in Barnegat NJ on the Jersey shore. Spent 40 years in non profit management. Now retired and spend much of my time knitting, weaving and traveling. I have a very patient husband who doesn’t blink when I tell him I’m going to Japan to weave for two weeks. But knitting is always my favorite. Love lace and sweater knitting for me and friends and knit for our two granddaughters. Life is good.
Hi! Ellen from Jersey. (Originally from Ohio, but I’ve been out here so long, I call “pop” “soda” and use the word “agita.”)
I’ve been knitting for about three years and it has been a boon to me. I view it as a problem I’ve created for myself that I can solve to my own satisfaction. Others have written this elsewhere, but I’m taking small risks and clocking small victories. I’m also learning, which feels fabulous. And improving, which is rare. And doing something tangible that results in a finished object, unlike my day job, my politics, or raising a teenager.
Ravelry has become my escape. I follow designers like an earlier generation followed soap operas. (What IS Stephen up to?)
Knitting is my refuge. I knit a Pressed Flowers hat while my dad was in the cardiac ICU, a Jessica Jones cowl during my son’s spring track, a Noro throw during winter track, a Lento on a park bench, and a Halibut cowl on a roadtrip. I’ve got a Tin Can knits classic cardi, toddler size, on the needles now as cross-country season heats up.
I was up at 5:30 this morning, not on purpose, and I curled up with the Lounge. Thanks for giving me good stuff to peruse, fiber friends. I’m grateful you all our out there, clacking those needles.
Hi, I’m Helen. I enjoy all things creative. I learned to sew and cook when Home Ec was required learning for girls. Taught myself to crochet when I was 16, learned to needlepoint and also embroider about the same time. I was intimidated by knitting for many years until I stumbled across a LYS that drew me in with the gorgeous knits in their display windows. That was over 30 years ago and I’ve been knitting ever since — mostly baby blankets, because they didn’t require advanced techniques or finishing. During the pandemic I found Purl Soho, Ravelry and began acquiring a yarn stash. I started a wishlist of sweater patterns but still limited my knitting to squares, mostly wraps. Earlier this year I ran across an interview about the partnership between Ann and Kay. I discovered MDK, got wind of Knit Stars and learned about a KAL in the fall with Knit Collage. I did the KAL, chose to knit a sweater, picked up a few new techniques — sleeves, intarsia, pockets, etc. — and am finally learning to do my own finishing. I have to admit I’ve become a little obsessed with knitting, it’s given so much confidence that’s grown even beyond knitting. I’m thrilled to join the MDK society and so excited about all the opportunities and possibilities for creating in 2026!
Hi I used to live in Framingham. Took classes at Fabric Place. Moved back to FL in 2015 between the blizzards. Also took a few classes at a knitting shop in Natick. Miss those places although I know the big Fabric Place closed and moved to a spot in the Framingham/Natick area.
Hi Helen! It’s cool to hear how one rabbit hole has led to another for you—I think that’s one of the things about knitting I love the most. It’s always new, and there’s knitting for every possible mood. So glad you’ve found this rabbit hole!
Hi all! I’m Jill and live in the Dartmouth/Lake Sunapee region of New Hampshire. I’m currently slogging through some required baby blankets and baby hats for extended family having their first babies but am also happily working on a Hansel Hap but Gudrun Johnston. I’ve been knitting for well over 40 years and just last week taught myself how to purl continental. 1x1 ribbing is no longer awful! Pictured are my two dogs Lucy (blue) and Bea (red fawn).
Hi I’m Nikki and I live in Miami, FL but am originally from New Hampshire and spent many years in Chicago. I am loving the Knit Hello workshop and my brain is filled with possibilities right now. I love to crochet as well and love Toni Lipsey’s Daphne baby afghan. And I’m working on Alicia Plummer’s Finest Kind sweater. I’ve been knitting for 15 years after the encouragement from my neurologist after a stroke. I am very grateful for knitting as I experience challenges in my health and it provides a wonderful diversion. And I love to snack on salty potato chips.
