Giftalong 2019: TEAM KAFFE

My hat was intended as a project to do without thinking too much while whiling away the winter hours, aren’t hats always needed? (The other Kaffe projects are in the thinking-how-to-put-the-pillow-pieces-together mode.)
The ribbing and helical stripes were done double strands but then, along came some Kaffe tries at the “boxes” where I used single strands, hoping the wearer wouldn’t mind a little cooler top.
The boxes have bobbles which I added later because I didn’t want to do all that stranding of multiple colors. But I am so glad I did try our the “boxes”, in various shapes and sequences.

One last post, though no where near finished - I am home in between two trips and neither conducive to taking along 13 balls of yarn - no matter how squishy they are  Loving this project! Photo is current status - and where it’s likely to stay for a few weeks now that it’s almost time to bang out a sweater in February! Suppose I could finish both sweater and scarf by February 29th… why not?

Bright stripes to see me through a gloomy January weekend. I was taught to knit as a child by 2 of my great aunts and there have been many times when I have been really grateful to have this cathartic pastime - today is one of those times. Thank you Aunty Rene and Aunty Rose xx

Tried to add to Instagram but I must be a tech idiot! Anyway, clearly not going to be done tomorrow. The blue is much more blue and the dark is dark olive. I actually didn’t love the coins. Since this is a cowl I felt I needed to catch the floats and too much float catching for me. I am going to do a checkerboard pattern next then a zig zag. I may run out of yarn. It’s good colorwork practice.

@ dbukko. Wow!! That’s lovely. Great work.

I really like the nubby purple/pink flowers. What a nice touch. I get such great ideas here.

I have just tried knitting my coin scarf inside out. What a game changer the floats look so good and it goes a little faster.

Every time I sit down to knit on my coins/striped pillow cover, I am reminded that I want to post this comment. But then I become so enthralled with the knitting that I totally forget. Yes, IN THRALL. That’s what I am to this yarn. I love, love, LOVE it!

My friend MargaretMFW had a brilliant idea, which was to just continue on the “back” side of the pillow cover without binding anything off. What I will end up with is the top (or bottom) edge with a three-needle bindoff …because live stitches. I’ll do an applied i-cord on the sides (this is with the stripes horizontal), and on one side I’ll apply the i-cord only to one side, and Margaret will help me install a zipper on that side, which will be partially hidden by the i-cord. Of course I will make a muslin pillow to put on the inside; the zipper means one could take out the inner pillow (perhaps even re-stuff it if it’s too flabby) and wash the knitted cover, carefully blocking it out, of course.

I added one thing to Margaret’s suggestion. I worked one row of Avocado Green, which is the demarcation from one side to the other. This edge will have an applied i-cord on it, so the row of green (which color I will also use for the i-cord) will mark the pathway for the cording.

Here’s a photo showing the demarcation between “right” side and “wrong” side, with the avocado green (chartreuse) line clearly showing.

And yes, that is a dropped stitch in pink, being held from raveling any further by an orange stitch holder. I’ll go back later and weave it in on the back so it won’t show. As soon as I discovered this (which was not until the stripes), I added that stitch back in.

Outstanding! What a gorgeous pillow this will be! So clever. I totally understand what you mean about the yarn. M

Can anyone point me to a tutorial for doing an attached i-cord? This will be along the sides of my pillow, so it needs to be with “finished” stitches. I’d love to have a primer on how to do this, Here’s a photo of my 28" 14" pillow cover, back side up, drying after immersion.

This looks wonderful!! I haven’t done attached i-cord yet, but here’s a video I found when I was doing the i-cord bindoff on a project. https://youtu.be/uGpPgxdFqoE

Thank you so much, Kay, Ann, and the MDK team for the lovely prize!! The Jill Draper Makes Stuff Windham is gorgeous yarn. I had enough to make my husband a brioche hat. I had 30 grams remaining and had to use it up. This month the Arnall-Culliford Knitwear Boost Your Knitting project focus is knitted toys. What better toy than a little lamb to add to my shelf of knitted friends? My remaining Rowan Felted Tweed will some day be a coins cowl. Until then, Lamb will keep watch over it.
