I have a terrible time measuring a swatch. I make it large enough so that I can measure middle stitches, not the edges. Often the swatch is about 6" x 6".
Then, I get one measurement in one area and another measurement in another area. This is usually when I’m making a sweater so even a small difference on the swatch could make a very big difference in a finished sweater.
Do I use the less-stitches-per-4" or the more-stitches-per-4"?

I suggest you block before measuring - that wil even out the stitches.
