OK, I’ve made a serious mistake in this pattern. I’m 7 inches into knitting and realized (after seeing Kay’s photo) that somehow I’m missing the 8 knitted stitches. I know I have to start over, but can you clarify the pattern? Thanks so much.
I remember reading an interview with Stephen West and he said that he often ‘made mistakes’ when following a pattern, and that simply led him to new patterns and more ideas. I don’t think any of this can be termed wrong - even a big fat hole in the middle of a piece can be a design element, if that’s what you want and like! If we all held our knitted Trellis Tops side by side, I’m fairly certain we’d find many differences…because we are all wired differently. That’s what makes us all beautiful, right?!!
Right! Have to admit though, I can’t wait to run into a bunch of us wearing this project, compare notes, stitches and colors.
Couldn’t you leave it, start the stockingnet sections after your next row 8? It would have a deeper start section is all. Design feature/element.
I agree that it’s a design element. Either start it now or just keep going. That’s what I love about knitting, we can make it our own. You get to decide and it’s what you like. Just do the same front and back or maybe do the back all trellis and just the front has stockinette. There are so many choices!!!
That’s a good idea…maybe I’ll start it now. It would be the set of instructions that you gave me including the K8 in between the fractured lattice pattern, right?
Thank you so much…I think that’s what I’ll do. I’ve always followed patterns exactly. I agree - a design feature
I think that will be fine, just make a note so both sides match! It is actually 2 repeats of the pattern, then 8 stitches in stockinette (at least for my size),
Thanks so much!
Done!! Just waiting for the buttons I ordered to arrive. This was such a pleasant knit, I might just have to knit another soon. I ended up with over a skein and a half left over, which I hope will be enough for a matching Arcade Cap. I absolutely LOVE this Nua Sport Yarn!
It’s beautiful! What are those pins that you are using for blocking?
That’s beautiful. You did such a good job! Be sure to post a picture when the buttons are on. The color is gorgeous.
They’re called Knit Blockers, from Knitters Pride.
Thank you!
Thank you!
It’s gorgeous! I’m curious, how did it block for you? When I wet blocked my swatch, it seemed to flatten out the lattice pattern somewhat. Should it be steam blocked instead?
Thank you! I wet blocked it (soaked for 20 minutes, squeezed out excess moisture, rolled in a towel). The lattice pattern didn’t flatten out at all; the yarn bounced back beautifully when dry. ( Love, love, love this yarn!)
Beautiful top! You should have enough for a hat,
my hat took about a skein.
Oh, good, thanks!
I like it!! Very interesting.
