I see the same, a titch more than 7. I’d measure over 4 inches.

My science project continues. The swatches have been boiled for 10 minutes. I was expecting a bigger ta da! moment. The row gauge changed by 1/16th of an inch. The stitch gauge didn’t change at all. Here’s the rub–if I don’t put a lid on my pot I don’t get a big, rolling boil. And I did not put a lid on the pot. I’m going to boil them again this time with a lid and see what happens.
So far, no difference between the plain water and the salted water.

I got the ruler as straight as I could, but it’s knitting in the round so it’s hard to get it to lay flat for me.

I’m going to say that this is 13-13 1/2 stitches = 2 inches. I read in the window and then correlating columns underneath.

I’m getting 13 stitches in 2 inches. So 6.5 stitches to the inch. The rows are a little wonkier (totally get the whole in the round issue). I’m getting 13 rows to 1.5 inches so 8.66 rows to the inch.
Pretty colorway. I like the little touch of blue in it.

Thanks y’all. I’m making socks for my kid and kept getting either too big or too small. Looks like being at a half stitch on the gauge probably has something to do with it. Think I’ll just call it 6 and have some negative ease.
Since it’s socks, row gauge doesn’t matter bc I can just add more rows as needed.
I see seven stitches and ten rows… hope I’m reading this correctly- on the first swatch post by Kay.

I have bought some yarn labelled sports weight for a project, and have swatched and blocked using pattern recommended needle size but did not get gauge.
I then swatched and blocked using needles 2 sizes bigger and got gauge.
My issue is that I prefer the fabric of the smaller needles, the fabric too open on the bigger.
Does this mean the yarn is not sports weight?

I knit my swatch and measured it right away. Got at least four different numbers in the same swatch.
I ranted and raved that gauge is a cruel, cruel mistress and I may have poured a glass of wine. In the meantime, that vicious little swatch sat on the table relaxing.
When I calmed down and returned to that horrifying bit of knitting it was suddenly consistent. Not the right gauge yet but at least consistent.
Lesson learned. Like bread dough or my mother, give it some time to relax when it’s not behaving.
This is Berroco Peruvia Quick on size 13 neddles. It’s from our epic Webs tent sale trip last May. Am ripping out and going for a 15.

Please help! Swatching still confounds me because I’m unsure of the count. Swatch done on Miss Babs’ Yowza with size 7s.

I’m thinking of making Baby Cocktails’s Dark and Stormy (top down cardigan), using Miss Bab’s Yowza. The swatch sample is in Yowza, and the color is called Wild Iris. When you order from Babs (sold only online or at shows), you get a little goodie - stitch markers for first order, or enough of a yarn to do a swatch. That’s how I came upon Wild Iris. I just love her colors - I’d probably make 3 of the same sweater just to use her yarns!

I was thinking that the gauge was a bit firm for Yowza. Miss Babs is a wonderful colorist. Dark and Stormy will look amazing knit in this, have fun!
