Thank you Kay! I’m sure Jen (I’ve watched her enough we should be on a first-name basis, right?) will make it obvious to me - it’s what she does!
I definitely have done projects without alternating. Some I love, some less so. I agree with the lace I personally would probably wing it!
SO overcommitted! And SO tempted.
I am banking on being able to thread a sock needle through this before “unzipping”-
purling the first row would have been a good call.
Next time I’ll remember that “Kay does it her way” :).
so i knit and sleeve and then blocked it as i knit the body - then it was dry by the time i finished the body - so i blocked the body as i worked on the cuffs of the sleeves. the body was then dry by the time i finished the cuffs - initially i was worried about stopping this project in the middle to do the blocking but i didn’t need to pause at all since i blocked in stages. also with this piece put together i like it as is without the ribbing around part of the outside - it definately has a shrug kind of feel. i’ll do the ribbing and see if i like it better like that - i can always take it out
as for the blocking i pinned it on blocking mats to the given measurements and then sprayed it with water and then waited for it to completely dry. it took a couple of days
I did this too, provisional cast on and purled the first row. The first time, I did it per the pattern. It worked fine, but was a little futzy. I thought I’d experiment this time.
gasps Do people know how easy this pattern is? Delightful results with so little effort — what an elegantly simple design! I had a crush on Jeannette Sloan in the Zoom session, but now I’m in love!
I’m still knitting my gauge swatch / sleeve if gauge works out, and already peeking at other colors to order for my next one! Living in steamy Texas, this is an ideal sweater/jacket/class-it-up accessory without over-warming oneself.
Another idea - - - linen? Thoughts?
Haven’t started mind but think you are being to block the over while working on the other. I didn’t think of that!
I’m in and looking forward to following everyone’s progress. What a brilliant design! This is Neighborhood Fibre Co. Stephen Towns, cast on and a few rows in. The lace pattern is easy to memorize so, barring lots of mistakes and frogging, it should work up quickly.
Is anybody here knitting Mood with the double stranded Gleam yarn (besides me, I mean)? I’m about 20 rows in, and loving the pattern, but fearing that it is too — well, too loose for the lacework to show up. Just minor qualms…
Hi! I am using a double strand of Gleam and had to go down to a size 3 needle to get the proper gauge. Please note that I’m a loose knitter. But even so, I had to keep trying smaller and smaller needles. Good luck!
Yikes! That’s a pretty big difference in needle size!
Perhaps it is time to pause and try the dreaded gauge check.
Send good thoughts my way…
I bought that yarn too. I used the sock version in a shawl, will be interesting to see how the rustic fingering behaves. What size needle did you use?
I swatched with sizes 6, 7 and 8 and was surprised that 8 gave me gauge as it seemed a bit more “open” than the photo stitches appeared. The yarn feels great and I’m very pleased with the color. Good luck!
The photo that I posted shows knitting on size 8s. The stitch count is pretty close, and the row count is off by 2 rows. Now I’m not sure what to do…I don’t dislike the fabric I’m knitting on the 8s, I’m just a little surprised by how open it seems compared to the pictures (and I’m not sure what will happen when I wash/block the sweater).
Okay…after a goodish bit of dithering and doubting myself, I’ve decided to keep on keeping on. It’s supposed to be drapey, right? And I can always frog it or use it as a reading cocoon if worst comes to worst. Tally-ho!!!
Yes…I will be knitting Mood in Gleem. I worked a swatch on size 8’s but I thought the “holes” were too big so switched to size 6. I think I will be happier with size 6. Row count is way off though but I am hopefully thinking it won’t be too much of a problem (she says with fingers crossed!).
I’ve knitted about 14" so far in that color way and I can attest to its gorgeousness!
I did the same and purled the first row. I was a little uneasy with the provisional cast on being so densely involved in the lace pattern - I feel a little vindicated since Kay herself admitted to the same…
Question then becomes: When you unravel the cast on, will you unpurl that first row???
I’m so excited to start the Mood Cardigan. I have one question. When using Helix the pattern indicates holding two yarns together but when I look at the photos of the works in progress using the Rustic fingering it looks like only one yarn. So the question is one or two yarns? Thanks
