Setesdal Hat Knitalong with Arne & Carlos

Made two Setesdal hats then tried a couple of other stash-busting projects (a striped hat and a marled belt) to continue working with this beautiful yarn. #arnecarlos # moderndailyknitting

Thank you, Jeanieslp.

Very happy with the result (even if I did a mistake by repeating a line) and it fits (I am glad I added one pattern repeat while using US4 needles for the stranded work. I would never have chosen these colors myself, so thanks to Arne and Carlos for the color choices. Now I want to knit another one in 2 colors (red and white) even if it takes me another month.

I usually give a little extra tug on the second stitch after switching to the next needle. That tends to work pretty well for me. Sometimes when i notice a loose stitch here or there and i don’t feel like frogging, I use duplicate stitches to tighten them up.

One done, half of the second mitten done. With all the snow, it has been perfect mitten knitting weather.

Now that’s an efficient use of leftover yarn. The woven belt is especially imaginative!

Hi Nancy,
Did you win the grand price from Arne and Carlos? Congratulations!! All 4 hats and color combos were really nice. I liked that picture as soon as I saw it. With that price you will now be able to do the sweater…

Thanks! I was so surprised that I screamed and my husband running toward me was worried something had happened to me. Needless to say, it took me the whole day to relax and meditate.
Yes, I’ll be able to knit the sweater. In the meantime, I am knitting WIP to keep busy and relaxed. My husband is celebrating by wearing the gold one.

I’ve got just the thumb left on the mittens - i love how they’ve turned out! One trick I wish I knew before making these: when doing the thumb’s next row after knitting in the scrap yarn, just knit a row of straight color, then pick up the pattern again on the row of that. Having the strands in the top row to pick up in afterthought thumbs is leading to a tangle that isn’t fun. Knit and learn! Processing: 20230305_100923.jpg…

I knit this hat after pulling together some leftover DK weight of various wool blends. I used this project as a primer for a larger color work project. It was a fun knit!

I was unhappy with my decreases and felt the hat was getting too tall! So, I made a lifeline and ripped back my knitting to where I finished the color work. I think I’m going to follow your example and decrease more rapidly too! Thanks very much for posting these helpful tips AND for all of the great photos!

These are just gorgeous! And your decreases are so tidy! And it’s fascinating to see the pattern in so many different color ways. Thank you for sharing these!

Thanks Jeni. It was such a fun knit. I may make a few more.

Here’s my hat #2… new hat, new snow! Took this photo this morning and we’ve got two more inches since then. As soon as it melts and packs down, we get more… The snow shovel made a great hat stand!
