Setesdal Hat Knitalong with Arne & Carlos

I forgot to mention that I do love the colors and the project and the yarn!!

I’m casting on for the Setesdal Hat and I am in love with this yarn. I almost don’t want to knit with anything else now. The design is absolutely spectacular. Such a traditional Hat with this modern twist and colours are very beautiful. I’ll post another photo when I finish. This may have been mentioned here in the lounge - I noticed the pattern calls for US 2 which on my knitting gauge is 2.75mm rather than 3 mm

Steam blocking superwash works (for me).
The trick is not to apply pressure, I glide a good steamy iron over the surfaces while pressing the steam button, then let the fabric rest, although sometimes I pull the fabric a bit to even out wonkyness.

I wasn’t thrilled with how the color work meshed with brioche.
Ripped and reknit. Not too happy with stitch tension (still practicing 2 handed stranded).
Included a seamless jog at beginning of each round.

I’m a slow knitter, too, and though I’ve knitted for many years, I’ve only started joining KALs in the past few months- three, so far. They have all been fun! I don’t think it’s important to finish on time. We all have variable knitting speeds and time to devote to knitting, but even us slow pokes can enjoy the tips and community, and get inspired by the beautiful projects our fellow knitters complete. One tip I picked up is to put a unique stitch marker for the beginning of the round, then a different looking kind from that one for each repeat of the color work design ( every 14 stitches). Then it is easy to check, and fix mistakes as you go along each round.

The more you practice and knit, the better you’ll get. Be patient and always remember, most of your friends will have no idea if you’re less than perfect. I am definitely less than perfect and enjoy every moment of it.

I’ve been knitting since the 80s, continental style, and generally do two colors on left hand. So using right hand and flicking is definitely twisting my brain!

Second hat with mixed up colors. Pattern looks so different from the original.

I love the pink, and red, with the spot of black section!

On the downslide now, at the crown decreases, hopefully with a surprise for you all at the end! Thank you, fellow knitters (you too Arne, Carlos, Ann & Kay), for all the tips and help along the way! Will post my final in a day or two!

I love how different this looks!

Finished and steam blocked! As I was knitting this hat I just knew I would add a tassel, just couldn’t decide between pink or that lovely mustard. I did try icord to attach the tassel but it was just a little too bulky so I crocheted a chain instead. This was a great pattern and a fun knit along! Really pleased with the results!

Im halfway through the hat using 3 and 5. Like others, i think it will be too small but loving the design and colors.
Trying to figure out how to post a picture.

This is so cool. I love seeing all of the different color combos. They don’t even look like the same pattern!

Done and very happy with how it turned out. I’m in love with this yarn and am debating what to do with the leftovers…another hat…mittens…headband…fingerless gloves…decisions decisions

I have a question. My ribbing often looks a bit sloppy and loose, even though i go down 2 sizes of needles. (See my hat in post 498) Any ideas?

You posted in the right place for contributing to others in the KAL but if you want to enter for the prizes you need to post a picture of your work with any comments you want to make and the hashtag for Arne and Carlos and modern daily knitting like this #arnecarlos #moderndailyknitting Hope this helps!
