Lauren, not sure if you got an answer or if you just decided to go down a size. I had a hard time too and didn’t want this to be too big so I went down a size. So far it seems good. Hope you got started okay.
omg - i can’t wait for my yarn to get here - needed to return so i could get the grayer color way - white, grey, black with blasts of other color is my wardrobe. capall - brownish - is lovely and making an arcade hat with it (perfect for me for a hat) - but august storm is more my deal for a vest-ish tabard-ish piece.
Hi!
Thank you for your response. I did wash my swatch and decided to go with the medium size. ( my original size) I thought about wanting it to have a little shoulder drape too. Fingers crossed! So far after 6 plus inches I think it is going to be ok!.
Wishing you the best.
I have finished the back. I had gone down a size so hopefully it will fit. If not, easy enough to start over
So when I reach Row 7 after the second set up row, I do not begin the row with the Knit 3. I just do the edge stitch and then a left cross.
I’m confused. I’m on my first row 7 (where you knit three before starting the repeat) after setting up the stockinette sections, and I’m not sure how to keep the stockinette sections intact. Do you not knit the whole repeat before the stockinette sections on row 7? Help!
I moved my markers over by three stitches for row 7 and followed exactly the pattern repeat as written. I, too, was worried how the stockinette sections would work. But it does work. So while it sounds like stockinette sections would be off, they are not. I posted a picture of my back that I completed last evening. It’s a couple posts back.
I hope this helps.
Hi all! New to MDK, knitalongs, and just knitting in general! Started taking classes at my LYS in January and I have been hooked ever since. Enjoying learning online now that I can’t take in person classes. I gave myself a birthday present of Angry Monkey Nua to try the Trellis Top. Worked on swatching the fractured lattice last night and I think I’m getting it! So pretty!
Just wanted to let you all know that I’m way behind you all but I’m thrilled that I’ll be able to use these posts as guidance as I struggle along this summer! Hopefully you will be willing to answer my novice questions from time to time!
I’m enjoying working on my Transom cardigan, but also have an eye on the Trellis Top. I like it a lot, but I do prefer a more open neckline. I wonder if it would work if I switch to two sizes larger for just the neckline shaping? Has anyone else done that or know if there’s a better way to do that? Thanks.
Hi Diane, I’m only a few months before you. Started in September and I haven’t looked back. This pattern is pretty easy once you get it figured out and looks like you have. But doesn’t it make for such a beautiful end result. Love the color and yarn too. Thanks for sharing. Lots of great ideas in all of the posts. Welcome!!!
Yes! If you look carefully at the graph for the Fractured Lattice Pattern, you will see that the bold line (that indicates the repeat) shifts 3 stitches to the left thus making the first stitch of the repeat (after the K stockinette stitch) being the 1/1LC and the last stitches in the repeat being the two K stitches. I hope this helps.
You DO NOT knit 3 before beginning the repeat. Look at the Fractured Lattice Pattern graph carefully. You will see that the bold line indicating the 8 stitch repeat shifts over to the left so that the first stitch of the 8 stitch repeat is actually the beginning of the 1/1 LC. The last stitches of the 8-st repeat are 2 K stitches. So, the 8-stitch repeat goes like this: 1/1LC, K, K, 1/1RC, K, K. I hope this helps you.
I agree. The three knit stitches is at the beginning and end but not part of the 8 stitch repeat.
I am knitting on 138 stitches. Each FL section is 16 stitches. I am knitting 3 at the beginning of each FL section as follows:
K3, LC, k2, RC (slip marker), k2, LC, k3
It seems to be working: (the blue marker is on a dropped stitch)
Yours looks fine to me. I think I read the pattern to be the repeat after the initial 3 stitches where the *is listed. But yours looks good to me too. I just think it’s important to be consistent.
I tried this and it worked perfectly. Thank you!
I have a question on the highlighted section in attachment… How do you do a BO 4sts once, then 3 sts once? How does it differ from BO 7 stitches? Thanks
Happy knitting!
I emailed Carol about this and here is her response:
These are done on different rows. The first RS row has 4 sts bound off, then you work a WS row and then you work the next RS row with 3 sts bound off at the beginning.
I didn’t understand that from the pattern but makes sense. I haven’t knit enough to realize that is what it would mean. I thought I’d share the answer here.
