I am in the same case as you are. I added one repeat and I am now trying to figure out how I can decrease without making the hat too long/high. I am also trying to keep the 4 sections of decreases, so I split my 126 stitches into 31, 32, 31, and 32 stitches. With 8 decreases by row, I should be doing 14 rows of decreases (instead of 12 in the pattern) and would finish with 14 stitches (instead of 16). To avoid the hat being too long, I am trying to figure out when to switch from decreases every other row to every row. Let us know what you decide please.
My first attempt with increased repeat and making the crown was no knit rounds. I feel like the proportion was not appealing, too flat, so am frogging for the first time. Will do increases as suggested with 5 sections and 10 decreases including the alternate knit rows. Any tips before I remove the needles is welcome
Thank you!
I’m thinking of the sweater in Cappuccino with only the Rounds 33–80 motif knit in Emerald or Mountain or Peat just above a deepish k2p1 rib hem for boxiness. Just thinking. Not really planning to do anything about it.
Hi–I’m just joining in. I’ve knit two hats with Dale Garn Baby Ull from my stash. So it’s technically Norwegian wool but not the one by Arne and Carlos. I still went with a size 4 needle which was a bit of an experiment, but it seemed to work. The hats are just right for kids, I think. Fun, fun project–fast and colorful.
This is exactly how I would divide the stitches.
It will require 2 extra rounds to reduce them - the pattern has you work a dec. every other round (22) rounds.
I think that the final 4 rounds - at 44 stitches - should all be decrease rounds,
(if you’re concerned about adding height.)
My gauge is off a bit but it does fit on my head. I don’t look as cute as the model in the Field Guide though!
I like this plan. Thanks to Catherine and nellknits.
I just typed #moderndailyknitting #arnecarlos in my posts. You can do either one but it’s good for their presence to get tagged so I did both.
I don’t have an Instagram account. Does that make a difference if I type these codes? I don’t do social media.
I like your blue and white choice for this. It has a different look than some of the other two color hats, though those are effective also. It reminds me of one of my first two color knits.
If you are only posting here, I don’t think you need the tags.
And I’m thinking of peat but only doing rows just rows one to 32 in colorwork.
Oh my. LOVE these colors. Totally going to copy!
I love some of the color combinations I’m seeing on here. Very inspirational. Slowly but surely, I’m getting there. #arneandcarlos, #moderndailyknitting
Henry is so cute! Is that a pattern name you can share?
I love the shorter decrease section, looks crisp.
Thank you so much! I used my colored pencils, graph paper, and stash bin yarns to try this combo!

Here’s my finished hat. Knit on 3s and 4s with a wider band of ribbing and 7 pattern repeats instead of 8. It fits although it’s a bit snug, even after wet-blocking. Will be toasty warm when it gets really cold. #moderndailyknitting #arnecarlos
If you are interested in the “prizes” (yarn, needles, field guide give aways) then you need to post on Facebook or Instagram and tag. If you don’t care about the “competition” just post your progress/pics in The Lounge so others can see your work and interact! Would love to see your work!
