Summer of Wandering Socks KAL

Oh, yes. I like the way the colors fade.

At first, I was pretty skeered to try the provisional co. I was afraid my stitches would unravel when I removed the waste yarn. But it is very cool. It worked for me.

A question. Has anyone ever done the “toe chimney” method of grafting a toe, and if so, do you like it better than Kitchener stitch grafting? I just saw this demoed in a Bluprint class and it looks interesting in large gauge yarn, but doing it on 2.25mm needles with sock weight yarn seems like it might be … challenging!

I learned the technique in a class and thought it was a great tool for visualizing how to graft, which was helpful in mastering Kitchener.

On another topic, I have turned socks inside out to demonstrate a 3 needle bind off, which some knitters love.

Thank you. I also remember reading that somewhere.

Thank you. Good to know!

Thanks. I can’t wait to see the finished pair.

Ok…you’ve worn me down and I’m joining my first ever KAL. As a reward ( like cool socks aren’t enough), I’m by-passing my stash ( which has really neat stuff like Euroflax and bamboo and…well, you know) and ordering some nifty sock yarn from MDK. Can’t decide which one, but I think citron may be it. If you’re going to to do it, then DO IT!

Pair #3 is on the needles! Enjoying a beautiful day at the Saratoga race track with the family. The yarn is hand painted yarn from Mountain Colors in the Blueberry color way

My first sock! (Although by the time I got this one done I’m pretty sure I actually knit two.) Toe-up, allover Seersucker pattern, Malabrigo Sock in fucsia.

Any advice on a stretchy bind-off method would be appreciated. I have done it and undone it twice, binding off in pattern (k1tbl x p1 rib), because it was too tight. (I went up a needle size the second time.)

Thanks!

I’d try regular knit 1, purl 1 rib and if that’s still too firm - Elizabeth Zimmermann’s sewn bind off!
(who knew I’d say that??)

My bad…What I meant was that I knitted the cuff in k1tbl, p1 rib, but did the bind off in k1, p1. Was too tight both times, even the second time with a bigger needle. I saw a video where you twist the right-hand needle around clockwise before the knit stitch, counterclockwise around before the purl stitch. She (Lorraine) said it doesn’t make the bind off edge flare out. Any thoughts on this?
