HOUSEKEEPING:

What a day! Look at all these beautiful squares! I am blown away (yet again!).

We have a block size now! For those of you who are new to the thread or have simply been skimming the posts (there are a lot of them), the plan was whoever finished, washed and blocked first would determine our square size. We are using a different yarn than what is called for in the pattern so, you know, things change.

@leahdl closed the deal first so our squares are officially 14 inches by 14 inches. These blankets are going to be delicious!!!

There have been a few good questions happening today as well.

@elselynn asked if she could make more than one square. The answer is a resounding yes! Make as many as you would like. Weā€™re a bit of an oddity in the Team Blanket world because we donā€™t yet have a hard finish. Itā€™s August and time for lazy days, quiet time at work, fresh corn and tomatoes, and the smell of privet hedges at sunset on a hot day. This is not a time to make decisions. After Labor Day, weā€™ll have a more definite schedule. For now, do what makes you happy.

I had a question on email about the pattern. It was something that hadnā€™t occurred to me but it was a great question. Do we have to adjust the number of cast on stitches because we are working at a different gauge? The answer here is a resounding no! We are working the pattern as written (unless you are Team 2.1 and doing a garter stitch square). The size will change because of the gauge but not the proportion.

Iā€™ve been haunting the news all day to keep up on the news about Aretha Franklin. Iā€™m sending her some blankety love and keep watching this video. When she drops the coat, I swoon. Sheā€™s an American treasure and I hope sheā€™s at peace right now.

uh
oh! I thought I had read that our swatch was to be 12"x12" and that was what mine turned out to beā€¦a miracle actually!..so should I rewet and try to stretch it out to be 14x14???

OMG Karen!! That video of Aretha gave my goosebumps and made me cry all at the same timešŸ˜¢ Thank you for sharing it

IMPORTANT! READ THIS:

Oh gauge, you are a fickle mistress. But we are nimble knitters and can handle anything that comes our way.

At the high end, we are getting 14" x 14" on our squares, at the low end, we are getting 12" x 12". So why donā€™t we go with that.

As long as your square fits within those sizes, we can make this work. Garter stitch is squeezy and stretchy. Wool is forgiving.

If we have any extreme cases, I have access to a magical place (my sisterā€™s basement) where I can rewash and block any squares that have gone totally off the farm.

Keep in mind that I will be washing and blocking the blankets again after they have been sewn up so we have wiggle room. As long as we stick to the pattern and all end up with the same number of stitches, weā€™ll be fine.

So no need to reblock or reknit. But if you are inspired to knit another one, have at it!

Cheers!

You are so gracious! I am enjoying my trip but look forward to having yummy yarn when I get home and getting started on my square. Iā€™ll be taking a class @albamachannin on Friday. Gonna visit the new Legacy Museum today in Montgomery, Alabama.

Beautiful square. What size was it blocked? Iā€™m at gauge and just blocked the mitered section before adding borders and am only at 8", so will be much closer to 12 x 12 than 14 x 14. :grimacing:
