Thank you! I originally went with a gray, but now my ‘wild oak’ is on the way to me! Your original post popped up just as I was using a similar color in my stash on my ‘practice’ square (this is my intro to miter) while I wait on my order!
Love your further progress pic, it looks fantastic! Those colors and your ‘corner fade’ are super.
Thanks for the giggles!! Wash more dishes… I read your post to my husband and he said “ she must’ve gotten dishes at the estate sale… or you went to her house to cook!” I love to cook and folks say that you can judge the success of my meals by the splatter radius on the stove and the number of dishes and pots and pans! Hope you have a fabulous Monday💕
Hi Karen,
I would love to knit a square. I sent you an email. Can you please send me the pattern?
Kristen
Two down! Colors are Oatmeal and Prairie Fire. This is fun construction that took me a bit to figure out . . . the confusing bit for me was that the cast-on row is on TWO edges of each miter rather than the one edge I am used to in unmitered knitting.
That’s an awesome start, and helpful to know when I start my miter! Thx kinfantino😉
Thanks Karen. I still feel a bit nervous about it, but will exercise a little faith. I think this project is so great. This group will touch many lives, which in turn will touch each knitter’s life. You are so right about the Yonkers firemen; they’re the best!
I ran into the same problem. Had to have my husband interpret the instructions for me…sometimes it takes another set of eyes!!! Love your colors!
Courage Diane!!! Nine stitches to two inches is four and a half stitches to the inch. Take a deep breath. You’re doing great!!!
It’s true confessions time.

This weekend was so amazing with so many people joining up that, I have to confess, I have been cutting and pasting my reply email. You are all so wonderful but I thought it would be better to get you all the information as quickly as possible rather than satisfying my inner Jane Austen.

I went yarn crazy last week. Yarn! Crazy! I know I mentioned going to an estate sale but I didn’t tell you everything. It’s a friend of mine’s company (he’s a great guy) and he called me last week because he had no idea what to do with all the needlepoint and yarn in the place. I think the exact message on my cell phone was “Help!!! I don’t know what the f*ck to do with all this yaarrrnnnn!” When I went over to help him, I picked up a few lovely things. Really. A few. I swear. I felt very virtuous.
Things were still in control at this point. Which didn’t last.
My pride at not buying anything at the Eileen Fisher Lab Store on Friday was a false pride. What I left out of the story was that my next stop was my LYS. I needed two colors of the Lamb’s Pride and I swore that it was all I was buying. There was a sale. I was a good sale. I bought some lovely little beauties to take home with me because it was a Friday and I had two glasses of rose with lunch.
Feeling a little denial kick in. It wasn’t that much yarn and I can stop any time I want, dammit.
On Saturday afternoon, I went back to the estate sale to see if Jeff had survived the needlepoint ladies. This was the equivalent of me saying “Why yes, a shot of tequila sounds refreshing on this rainy day. Shall I cut the lime?”
I ate the worm.
The needlepoint ladies had dug down to archaeological layers of yarn. Piles of it. Remember, I had been there when it was a five foot high pile that took up most of the two car garage. Not to mention what was scattered through the house. I brought home a lot. And by a lot, I mean A LOT! And a bunch of other things. Got four J. Jill linen blouses with the tags still on them for 50 cents. Not 50 cents each–50 cents for all them!!!
Keep those shots coming. I’m on a role. I was tempted to start singing karaoke at the top of the stairs.
On Sunday morning I woke up with a wicked yarn hangover. Now it all had to be sorted, put in zip locks (the people at FoodTown are starting to look at me funny) and added to the stash.
Around 4 o’clock in the afternoon, the lanolin fumes in my house were finally starting to clear. The phone rang. It was my mother returning from VT and she needed some help unloading the car. They live across the street so I went over to help.
You know those people who say “hair of the dog, that’ll set you right” when you’re suffering from bottle fatigue. Hair of the sheep is pretty much the same. My mother had been to at least three hospital sales (it’s a VT thing) and came home with at least three big bags of really, really nice yarn.
As a result, I am up to my eyeballs in yarn right now. I am both ashamed and elated.
There’s an upside though. Once I get this all sorted out and do a little swatching, I’m going to put together some kits and I see a few giveaways in the coming weeks.
Keep on knitting and being nice to other people. By our very existence we are making the world a better place.
There are still dishes to wash. My boyfriend is a horror in the kitchen.
The things we learn here!! I LOVED that book and didn’t know it was a show. Can’t wait to watch it. I am still waiting for my yarn to arrive. I’m on a short vacation this week, so I am hoping it will be there when I get home. Thanks @jbass for letting me know a favorite book is now a show.
I loved the book too, but don’t have Netflix. Will hope for amazon prime or some other way. I hate that I cannot buy single items (movie or series) on Netflix.
Ok my block is dry and blocked and the final measurements are:
14” x14”
I’m going to weave in the ends and post it off to you Karen. I may need to make another cuz this was so fun!!! But I do have other projects to work on!!
Libby, it’s gorgeous:)!! What color is that blue?
Those colors are gorgeous!!
The yarn from me is on the way, enjoy your vacation!
Thanks! It’s called Ink Blue (M-58)
So is this where I admit I got ithat wrong the first time with my ‘practice square?
The beauty was that it was 1) it’s early and a quick knit still at that point; and 2) I think I learned what I was supposed to in practice!
Still waiting for my yarn to arrive - I’m ready now!
