Please Introduce Yourself!

Happy to bang out a Hadley starting now! Going with the German twisted cast on and no fear. Thanks for the reminder to take it with me everywhere. It will help me have a better everyday this February.

I learned to knit from my grandmother, when I was a kid, and have become very into knitting especially in the last ten years or so. And my grandmother, who will turn 103 in April, still loves to see what Iā€™m working on!

Iā€™m Kim. Currently living in northern CA, but missing my south FL home! I love knitting lace and cables. Now that Iā€™m a cooler climate, I can actually knit wool and alpaca. Iā€™m a high school science teacher.

Iā€™m Sally and Iā€™ve been knitting since a friend knit me some snowflake mittens in the '70ā€™s and I lost one of them. I had to knit a replacement. I didnā€™t knit for a while after that until I grew jealous watching a woman knit socks during lectures in college. I bought some yarn and began knitting socks out of Candide yarn. Remember Candide? Candide and EZ were constant companions through college beyond. There are too many things I would like to learn ā€“ I console my curiosity with knitting and books.

Denise in Charlottesville, Virginia, here. The first thing I ever knit (besides an awful dark brown acrylic scarf in girl scounts) was a hat, in the round. Only problems: starting with a variegated cotton yarn was the worst experience. I couldnā€™t read the stitches because of all of the color changes . . . and who lets a beginner knit a winter hat in a cotton kitchen yarn? Too funny.

I still shy away from complicated knitting. Greetings to all. Let me know if you are in Charlottesville, knitter friends. We have THREE yarn shops now. Arenā€™t we lucky??

Hi!

Iā€™m Nicole and Iā€™ve been knitting for about 25 years (Iā€™m 30). My mom taught me to knit when I was a little girl, although I abandoned it for a variety of other projects and crafts in elementary school. I picked it up again seriously sometime in high school and Iā€™ve been knitting and spinning now for a while.

I donā€™t remember the first thing I ever knit, although I suspect it was some sort of attempt at a scarf. My favorite book is probably Pride and Prejudice. Iā€™ve read it several dozen times and I can always get something new and interesting out of it. Although I also love anything by Neil Gaiman, and have read Stardust almost as many times as Iā€™ve read P&P. I love reading, and really just canā€™t pick a favorite.

The thing that I would most like to learn how to do is to weave. The barrier to this, is of course a loom. I live in a one bedroom apartment that already houses a cat, a generous yarn stash, and a spinning wheel. Is space to put a loom a good reason to marry my boyfriend and move into his house? Not sure.

Anyway, I love Mason Dixon Knitting and their blog and canā€™t wait to get involved in this community!

Hi - Iā€™m Amy. The first thing I ever knit was a scarf for my then college aged son. My favorite shoes are Dansko Olivia and I would like to learn how to do needlepoint. There are currently several knitting projects on my needles, but the most active is Age of Brass and Steam in Malabrigo Worsted Velvet Grapes for my mother.

Hi! Iā€™m Adelaida.
First thing I ever knitted: A very, very long garter stitch scarf with multicolor acrylic yarn from Lamstonā€™s when I was around twelve. As an adult, I started knitting regularly about 15 years ago: a few sweaters but mostly shawls and scarves which are more useful in the warmer South, where I live. I recently finished the Stephen West Color Craving Shawl which was huge fun. I HAD to get on board with the Hadley sweater, though. It looks so gorgeous even if Iā€™ll only wear it a few days a year. This will be my first KAL and my first time with this type of color work. I am really looking forward to this project.
Favorite movies: The Philadelphia Story, Bringing Up Baby, Casablanca, Il Postino, and my all-time favorite: The Sound of Music.
Favorite pie: Blueberry
Want to learn: To knit faster so I can make all the projects currently in my queue.

Hi:
Iā€™m skb2714 on Ravelry. A long-time knitter and I mean LONG! I knit the kind of helmet hat that tied under my chin and had a string with a pompom hanging from the top. At least thatā€™s what Iā€™m willing to admit to. Then there was the Scandia (remember that thick and thin yarn from the sixties?) V-neck sweater that I never wore because I bound the neck off too tight.
Favorite movie-The Godfather. Iā€™d like to learn how to love exercise.
Love the new website-best of luck with it.

Hello Knitters!!! Iā€™m Carla in North Carolina.

I was taught the basic knitting skills by a wonderful Irish lady that worked with me. She liked to crochet more than knit and the ABC Crochet Baby Blankets were her ā€œthingā€. It seems like she made hundreds of them and they all went to charity. My first attempt at knitting was a scarf which had a ton of holes in it. Over the years I chose to surpass her knitting knowledge so the rest of my skills have be mostly self taught. I would love to learn to knit Continental style and to knit backwards.
Favorite movie ā€“ Dirty Dancing
Favorite food ā€“ a medium rare steak ā€“ Iā€™m a carnivore in a big way.
Favorite color ā€“ DUH ā€“ Carolina Blue!!! Is there any other color?? Go Heels!
Favorite shoes ā€“ my worn out clogs that Iā€™ve had for years.

Iā€™m happy to be in the lounge!! Thereā€™s nothing like a comfortable chair, my sweet Harley dog, a favorite knitting project and a cocktail to regenerate the soul at the end of the day. Knit on Girls and Guys!!!

Iā€™m Siusan. My grandmother taught me to knit when I was 9. The first thing I ever knitted was a scarf for my Westie. My favorite items to knit are still scarves. Iā€™m working on an entrelac scarf right now. My favorite movie is Spies Like Us and my favorite color is blue. I am always up for a challenge when it comes to knitting. I learned how to cable while making gauntlets for my niece and how to knit fair isle while making a gnome for a friendā€™s child. I really enjoy MDK and look forward to being a part of all of this.

Hello! My name is Amy. My first knitting project was a blanket which I was going to knit in squares. As I progressed and got better, my gauge changed and so I abandoned the blanket and switched to a Christmas stocking. Luckily, I was naive enough to not realize the error of my choice (turning a heel?! color work?!). I still have that stocking (as wonky as it looks)!
Favorite movie - Casablanca.
Favorite color - yellow.
I want to learn how to spin - my efforts have been futileā€¦

Hi Everyone!
Iā€™m Kirsten and live in Scottsdale Arizona. I have been knitting off and on since the 90s, my first project was a hat knit for my knitting class. My next project was the Kerry Blue Shawl from Watermanā€™s ā€˜Shawls and Scarvesā€™ not realizing what a big chunk of knitting that was and I must say it is my favorite project to date. Iā€™ve got a thing for textiles, I also learned to weave in college and wish my cat didnā€™t like to destroy warps!
I canā€™t think of a favorite movie but I am an avid reader and my favorite book is A.S. Byatā€™s ā€˜Posessionā€™. Favorite food is mocha flavored anything (massive sweet tooth!), color is blue and I love Born shoes for comfort and am a sucker for a heel - although not too high.
I would love to learn fair isle (stranded) knitting and the brioche stitch is intriguing as well - thanks MDK for helping those lemmings along! I also like to bake and after watching the Great British Bake Off would love to learn to make pastries.

Hello Iā€™m Rachel
Mason Dixon was the first blog I ever read and I have enjoyed the straight forward joy of yarn ever since.
My Grandad taught me to knit as a child, as my Mother and Grandmother had both failed. I lapsed for may years but returned to the ā€˜woolly foldā€™ over 20 years ago.
I am currently studying for a City and Guilds in Handknit Textiles, but itā€™s a struggle as life keeps getting in the way!
My current ā€˜no brain requiredā€™ project is a log cabin blanket for a cat named Milo.
Unfortunately I canā€™t join the KAL as I should be studying, but I am looking forward to seeing other peoples projects.

Hi - Iā€™m Pam. Iā€™m originally from San Diego but now live in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado. I learned how to knit in home ec ā€“ I think I was 16. Iā€™ve been knitting off and on since but took it up seriously (as in collecting tubs of yarn) about 15 years ago. I love making big projects like afghans (Iā€™ve made 2 Log Cabin) and sweaters but lately have discovered the joy of completing a project in a weekend.

Iā€™m looking forward to the KAL. The sweater caught my eye and I had already ordered the yarn when it was announced. I knit the swatch last night and after I bound off I realized I had used a size 7 needle instead of a 8. What a knothead! Anyway, I can use it because it told me that if I use a 8 Iā€™ll be good.

The most important thing to note is that I like pie much more than cake.

Hi,

Iā€™m Talia. I do LOVE pie. Pretty much any kind of pie. My mom is a county fair blue ribbon pumpkin pie bake off winner so how could I not love pie!

Iā€™ve been knitting for about 15 years. I really got going when I moved to the UK and needed something to keep my hands busy while I listened to the radio. After a trip to Liberty in London to purchase supplies I pretty much havenā€™t looked back since. Dodi convinced me I could purl and my first real knit was a hat she helped me pick out.

My favorite shoesā€¦ my chacos. Hands down. The ones without the toe loop so that I can wear them with socks.

Hi! Iā€™m Natalie, Iā€™m new to the Lounge but a longtime Mason-Dixon Knitting reader. My grandmother taught me to knit when I was a kid (I think I started with a potholder, but it could have been a dishcloth), and after a long hiatus I picked it back up again as stress relief when I was in graduate school. My favorite things to knit are socks, and lace shawls made out of sock yarn. Lately Iā€™ve been on a baby socks & hat & sweaters kick, mostly because Iā€™ve of the age when all my friends are having babies.

I canā€™t possibly choose one favorite movie. Favorite color is blue.

Also, Iā€™m one of those odd people who loves baking pie much more than she likes eating pie.

Hi, Iā€™m Kristen. I live in New Jersey, have 4 kids, and commute into NYC daily. 10 years ago, I couldnā€™t imagine having a hobby. Now, well, itā€™s the same old knitting story.
I learned to knit from my Mom, just barely, when I was around 7. Picked it up again 3 years ago and finished a scarf. Found blogs, podcasts, and Ravelry. Done.
Favorite movie: The Philadelphia Story.
I loved every minute of the Stopover-along, despite not actually participating. This year, I may dip my toe in.
I love Ann and Kayā€™s snappy patter. The MDK Archives are a treasure trove.

Hi, Iā€™m Pati! I am a simple girl who likes to knit. Iā€™ve done a couple of art pieces and am dreaming about doing another. Mostly, I enjoy working with lighter weight yarns and have a bunch of shawls which I never wear. I always want to learn something new when I knit. Not doing the Hadley. Will be doing a MKAL with Ambah Oā€™Brien ā€“ another shawl! Have fun all you Hadley KALers!!!

Hiya!

My name is Elaine, i first knit something in grade school, canā€™t remember what it was. I got back into knitting when we moved to Vermont and I was expecting our first child. Since then Iā€™ve knit a lot! scarves, cowls, shawls, one and a half sweaters, socks, etc. Both my daughters play ice hockey, so practices and games are good knitting time (just make yourself a pair of finger-less mitts first thing!).

Favorite movies are too numerous to mention, salad, soup and toast are my favorite food groups, pinks and lavenders are my favorite colors and Iā€™m nearly always wearing clogs.

If I had spare time, Iā€™d love to learn to spin or weaveā€¦

Happy to be here!
