I don’t have a clear recollection of the first thing I knit; I think it was a chunky cowl I made in high school when my mom taught me to knit. The first thing I crocheted, though, was a doll blanket (I was five and had my grandmother’s help).
My favorite movie is Star Trek: The Voyage Home (the save the whales one). I can rewatch it endlessly.
I’m learning to make all sorts of things with root vegetables, since my husband and I signed up for a winter CSA. It’s been quite the adventure so far.
Hi! My name is Emily and the first thing I ever knit was a scarf. I still have it, it is horrible stiff feeling acrylic that is a really ugly pink color. The first thing I ever knit that I actually liked was an easy lace shrug. I don’t have that anymore because while I loved the way it looked when it was in my closet I absolutely HATED the way it looked when I wore it. So, after 6 years of it hanging out I frogged it and made a wonderful lace shawl.
My favorite movies are the Harry Potter series and I LOVE popcorn.
If I had the time I would learn to spin again. I would also like love to learn old style tapestry weaving.
The last year I have been focusing on making actual garments instead of shawls, scarves, and hats so I have a goal to knit 5 sweaters this year. However, because I promised DH that I would make him a sweater this month I won’t be working on the Hadley. I can’t wait to see what everyone makes though!
Hi My name is Cheryl. I’ve been knitting since I was in high school. My first project was a Norwegian ski sweater. I was so new to knitting, I didn’t known it might be beyond my skill level. My favorite colors tend toward blues and greens. Unfortunately, I love most any kind of food. Now that I am retired my favorite shoes tend to be sneakers! Right now I’m knitting Purl Soho’s lightweight raglan pullover in oatmeal gra
Hi! I’m Nancy
I learned to knit at the summer playground program but didn’t really start knitting and finishing projects until my daughter was in high school. I loved the sheep measuring tape in a silent auction basket at her school. Went to the LYS and started knitting. First finished object was a shrug for my daughter. I now knit all the time. I also do charity knitting: prayer shawls with a group at church, premie hats and blankets for the NICU and a few scarves for the Red Scarf Project.
My favorite shoes are flats and I love blue.
I want to learn Brioche and steeking. When I travel, I have started to buy sock yarn at the yarn stores I visit to make a mitered corner blanket
In all seriousness, Cathy, I have been thinking about painting metallic paint onto knitting for quite a while now, ever since I saw a lady in a scarf that had gold paint on the tips. I am glad to hear it can be done!
Congrats, Charu! As a longtime lawyer I was drawn to knitting in my 30s, for much the same reasons. Lawyering is so full of words, and wordy conflict. Knitting is so silent, even in your head there are no words when you’re knitting, only shapes and numbers and rhythms.
Hi y’all! I’m Laura. I have been knitting and crocheting since some time in the 90s, though I mostly knit these days. My favorite movie is The Fifth Element. I have four cats and two kids, and a husband. (Not necessarily in that order.)
I am going to wait to to the Hadley sweater because I am in the almost exact middle of an entrelac blanket and I don’t want to get sidetracked, and because I want to see what everyone else does about the waist shaping. (My shape is basically Potato.). I did the Stopover Knitalong last year though so I don’t feel bad about the delay.
I’m Patti and, like Kathy, I’m Patti not Patricia. I live in Alexandria, Virginia, where I raised three kids who have (thankfully) flown the coop.
Gramma taught me to knit, starting with a scarf, and to crochet, starting with granny squares.
I am not in love with any of my too many shoes. The athletic ones are so comfortable, but geez, they look clunky. I do love A Thousand Clowns (Jason Robards fighting the man), aioli, paella, and chocolate sauce on vanilla ice cream.
I’m conquering lace, but seaming still stumps me. I want to knit a sweater that both fits me and looks good on me.
I’m Jenny aka Yarnvixen on Ravelry. I first learned to knit back in the late 60’s from some kind person giving lessons in the craft dept. of the local hardware store. First projects were the usual worsted weight acrylic slippers, mittens and hat. My first “real” project was a rather large shawl/scarf knit from brilliant pink/red variegated slub yarn in a seed stitch on larger needles. I still have it and it’s still stupid fun to wear - occasionally. I knit a few things after that. Early 70’s type stuff. I recall in particular a poncho knit in two shades of blue. And a sweet yellow sweater for my son. I kinda lost track of knitting for awhile (aside from the occasional scarf) and got back in to it maybe 15 years ago or so after the birth of my first grandchild. I’m still more of a planner/stasher than a knitter. My expectations usually exceed my capacity to actually knit.
Let’s see - too many favorite movies to name. My taste in reading/movies and music is all over the place. Same with colors - like different colors for different things and don’t like to be pinned down. Don’t have much use for the color salmon tho and do tend to favor Turquoise/Blue/Greens.
Favorite shoes - flats. Always. Usually Birkenstocks or FitFlops or Toms. Born for boots.
I would like to learn to use the floor loom that I bought a few years ago and haven’t been able to get lessons for yet. Thought I could teach myself and quickly became overwhelmed by how much there is to know.
Right now I just want to plow thru some of the sizeable stash that I’ve accumulated since Ravelry made it so easy to access indie dyers and accumulate.
Hi,
I’m PShorten and I love to knit! My mom says I came out of the womb knitting but we all know that can’t be true. I think I sat in the laps of my Grandmom, Aunts and Mom and while they knit, I learned the craft. I have my master knitter level 2s and am not inclined to go any further in the program. I like to knit everything.
I also like to play with my camera I do love photographing my hand-knits and I post them at Ravelry as well as on Instagram and at my blog site, Two Left Feet.
Hi All. I started knitting 16 years ago when I moved to the colder northeast. The first thing I made was a scarf, Now I knit most things, but most of my knitting time is during other things. So if a project is going to get done very quickly it needs lots of “mindless” knitting in it (ss, rib, garter, easy to remember pattern, etc). I have a lace shawl I want to make but it is the opposite of mindless so it hasn’t gotten much time lately.
Hello Everyone! I’m Margo and I’ve been knitting since about 2000. I’m now a 30-something mother of 1 child and 1 dog that loves to sit on the couch in the evening, knitting and watching the latest PBS drama. I have a pair of black danskos and a pair of black Clark boots that I alternate between everyday. And I love pie!
I’m Jo in Nashville TN. I wave to Ann every morning from my home to hers. No she can’t really see me but I like to think she can. Please let me have my dreams!
The first thing I knitted was a scarf, from a kit. Other than being too short, it was fine. I think I still have it.
I wear Vionics & boat shoes with Vionics inserts in them. It’s the only thing that controls my Plantar Fasciitis.
I like a lot of movies, tntl. I’m also a TV junkie. I watch & read to be entertained, not to save the world.
As for something I’d like to learn, well, can anyone teach me how not to buy so much yarn?
