I am Gail, fingerless-glove, from Virginia. The first thing I knit was a red scarf on size 13 needles when Red Heart was still wool and was sold at the dime store.
I’m in a slump right now knitting a teeny tiny toad. I would rather be knitting lace or mittens.
My favorite shoes are anything comfortable, cuteness is secondary. My dream is to learn to speak Italian.
I am pretty fearless when it comes to knitting; I’ll try anything, but I admit I have never done intarsia.
Hi - My name is Lisa and I’m from Frederic, WI (90 miles NE of Mpls/St. Paul). I love pie and cheesecake and have been knitting for about 10 years. I check MDK daily and enjoy reading the posts. I’d like to knit - and complete - my first sweater this year!
Hi, My name is Gina. I’ve been knitting seriously since 2009. I like pie and I love reading about all of your knitting.
Thanks!
I’m Donna from Wisconsin. I knit and crochet, but knitting is my favorite. I spend a lot of my knitting time making toys for my 3 grandsons who live in Nebraska!
Uploading… Hi, I’m Aurora --originally from Alaska, but living in Bellingham, Washington. I learned to knit at around age 10 from my maternal Grandmother (Gram), and I have been a knitter ever since–I did have a detour into handweaving, spinning, & natural dyes for about 20 years, but even though I thought of my self as a weaver and fiber artist–I always knit also. I quit weaving in the 1990’s when I decided in my late 40’s to attend college and discovered printmaking. I had my own printmaking studio for a few years, and later on attended the California School of Professional Fabric Design ( a private design school, now alas, closed) in Berkeley, Ca where I learned surface pattern design. Being creative is my passion and I recently spent 2 years (at age 63!) in the US Peace Corps working at a primary school on Dominica Island in the Easter Caribbean where I developed an art curriculum and taught art to 270 primary students (among other things). And no, I never taught art before–but I loved it! Currently I am a bit laid up since I had surgery 12 days ago for double knee replacement–(yes, both knees at once!–the better to get it all over with) and I am now in the recovery stage (since I am no longer taking so many pain meds I can’t concentrate) and see ALOT of knitting in the near future as I recover. I am also a Grandma with 4 grandsons ages 2.5 to 8–they keep me busy! I have too many WIPs and would really like to finish a vest and 2 sweaters I have 3/4 of the way knitted. I would like to knit myself some sweaters–I tend to knit smaller projects (hats, baby booties, socks, scarves, baby sweaters) and give them away. I would like to have some sweaters I have knit for myself to wear. I also create repurposed sweaters, bags, stuffed toys, pillows etc out of thrifted sweaters–which I deconstruct and alter or felt. I love cashmere and angora, but can’t afford the yarn–so I have been known to unravel thrifted sweaters for the yarn also.
Hi, I’m Claudia from Colorado! I like Pie, I like yarn more. And my birthday is Monday - what a better present!
Bonnie here, bkroll on Rav. My mom taught me to knit as a child, but I have only been a serious knitter/yarn collector for the past few years. I discovered MDK about Stopover time last year, became a serial (non)Stopover knitter and a daily MDK reader. Recently I loved taking Mary Jane Mucklestone’s Fair Isle socks class at Vogue Knitting NY. I am guilty of having way too many projects on my needles at one time, and lovingly tend a stash I feared might be too big until reassured by Clara’s recent letter here.
I’m still busy with filling requests for Pussyhats - so glad they are still in demand. Here’s a photo of my granddaughter in hers last Sunday:
I’m Steph and happy to be attempting to bang out a sweater with you all. Living in KC transplanted Pennsylvanian. At work so need to be brief.
My name is Andrea. I’ve been knitting seriously for about 15 years. The 1st thing I ever knitted was a pair of slippers. My grandmother taught me as a child to knit (using a wimpy cast on). I never pursued learning to read patterns until the “craze” started in my area with novelty yarns. Since then I have jumped in with both feet. I love lace knitting, learning new techniques, and spending time with my knitting friends. My favorite food is anything Mexican (tamales, shrimp cocktails, ceviche, and margaritas). The thing I would most like to learn how to do is to keep the deer out of my urban yard (no, I won’t build a fence). Glad to be here and hope I win the giveaway.
Hi, I’m Carol, writing from Oak Park, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. I’m not doing the KAL this time as I have too many other obligations–a baby blanket for a new grandkid, and a sweater I must finish ASAP or it will be too warm to wear it. I will be cheering you on from afar. Have a blast!
It was sprayed on as I remember, and the yarn was actually polypropylene cord, thus the sore hands . But the effect, for the audience was perfect.
PS We knit shirts and pants!
I’m Samina. I learned to knit back in 2000, using a Lion Brand “Learn to Knit” book. I made a long, stockinette stitch scarf from the book. It’s buried in the back of a closet somewhere now!
I enjoy knitting lots of things, but I’ve not tried brioche yet, so that’s what I’d like to tackle after I get through my mile-long list of projects I want to knit.
Hello! I’m Sarah, from Detroit, MI. I am not participating in the Hadley knitalong because I JUST finished a Sundottir, and figured I should work on something else for a while before doing ANOTHER yoked pullover. Even though they are the most fun thing to knit! There’s a reason I already have 3!
Currently getting started on knitting sweaters for every member of my immediate family, so that’s another reason I’m not joining the KAL. No more sweaters for myself until I finish this cabled sweater I am making my dad. I’m looking forward to seeing the progress on everyone’s Hadley!
I think I would use cotton–it’s durable but not so hard on the hands. It
was a really cool looking scarf, it was several years ago and I still
remember it. Looked like something you’d see on the catwalk for a big
designer.
Hello, I’m Molly from Columbus,OH and I’ve never knit a sweater! (gasp!) Maybe this will be the year! Who knows!
Hi I’m Kym. I learned to crochet when I was five and knit when I was nine from my grandmother. I suspect the first things I made were wooden clothes hanger covers. In addition to knitting and crocheting I also quilt.
My favorite colors are purple and green , my favorite pair of shoes are Birkenstocks, my favorite movie - that’s tough, I have several.
I would like to learn to knit continental , I would love to learn to play the cello, I would like to learn another language.
Pretty much my favorite thing though is my Boston terrier, Brody.
I’m Pam and I started knitting my junior year in HS (a long time ago!) inspired by my then-boyfriend’s mother. I’ve been knitting pretty constantly in the 34 years since then. My first project was a pullover vest designed by the yarn store owner where I took lessons. I think starting with a garment made me less afraid of trying ambitious projects than I probably should have been. I’m pamrupright on Ravelry and pamelarupright on Instagram. I love the new MDK site, though I loved the old blog too. At the moment I’m obsessively knitting linen hand towels with my full set of MDK mini-skeins (in all colors), with a short break for knitting 7 pink pussyhats for the marches. I’m tempted by the Hadley, but have some cashmere from String that is calling to me after having ripped out a completed garment (unhappy with size). Love the Lounge!
Hi, I’m janet. I like to knit all kinds of things, but besides pink hats, it’s been socks and garter stitch lately. I teach math when I’m not knitting, and the snickerdoodle cookies in the cafeteria are the ones that are best at breaking my no-sugar resolve.
Hi, I’m Julie in San Diego. I learned to knit the first time at age six. I knit narrow garter st belts for all my relatives that Christmas. Cast on 8 or 10 sts, knit until long enough and bind off. Then at 11 I was on a train from London to Scotland trying to knit a toy bear, and a couple of nice Scottish ladies showed me how to do it better. My knitting was greatly improved. Then I went to Munich for college, and the German ladies taught me continental and how to draft my own patterns, and my knitting really took off! My favorite food is chocolate anything. Purple and turquoise are my favorite colors. I mostly wear Crocs. I teach knitting and crocheting at Needlecraft Cottage in Pacific Beach. Last year Christmas I gave 85 hand made presents to friends and relatives. You have to start the day after Christmas…
Julie in San Diego, where it is just lovely today
Hi, I’m Dari!
Pretty sure the first thing I ever knit was a garter stitch dish cloth. That was thirty some years ago! I’m pretty partial to lace knitting and socks these days, but I always like to try new things. Learned to brioche last year. Hope to maybe try entrelac sometime this year.
