I LOVE the colours you chose! They’re beautiful together:)
Looking forward to starting socks tomorrow. Also have barnyard sock yarn on order for pair #2!
Thank you. It is my granddaughter’s choice. She’s 4 so I hope she likes light purple for a long time. Finished 1 square just now. Will post a pic tomorrow. Only 19 more to go
I struggled with this. There is a post here
that I found helpful.
Well . . . I’m gonna knit the picket fence afghan but since I did not order my yarn until the end of last week, I’ll be a late starter! In the meantime I started Jennifer Weissman’s “Out and About” wrap, which is sort of blocks as it starts with a modular construction.
Sorry, the lighting isn’t very good! I’m going to start by finishing up this pair of socks! I’ve never done a KAL before but I’ve wanted to for ages.
About 6 inches from top of cuff to beginning heel flap is what I use
Yes I had the same issue. It was just totally not making any sense at all! I pick up stitches WHERE? HOW? lol. Finally got it!!
Hi all,
I am in with the blocks but I have a question. I found a stash of old Rowan denim and would like to use it with to-be-acquired Handknit Cotton. I will hand wash the finished blanket in cold water. Will the denim still bleed? Am I better off not choosing light colors for the contrasts? Thanks for any insight!
thank you, now it makes sense. here is my finished 1st square one little blip where I twisted the two yarns on the wrong side.
Looking good! I’d call that an excellent head start!
Can’t wait to see how this goes, Wendy. Adding the Ravelry link to Out and About, what a cool design.
Thanks, Ann! I should have added the link. I promise t do better. I was scrolling through Ravelry and it caught my eye the other day. Then I noticed that I had already bought the pattern at some point! Despite the evidence of my encroaching senility, I was delighted by the surprise.
Honestly for me, toe up, two at a time solves the problem of getting both the same height. Once you have mastered it, you will never go back. (And as a bonus, you’ll discover you can do hand warmers and sleeves the same way!)
Go Rogue Sue! Very carefully wiggle your foot into the sock and see how long the leg is. The further along the sock is, the easier this gets. There are no hard and fast rules for this. Everyone’s foot is different and everyone’s preference is different. If you put it on, and you like the way it feels around your leg and your foot–then your stitch count is good. If you like the length, then the length is good. And those two numbers don’t always relate to each other. I believe that our dear Ann may have a perfectly proportioned foot! I am way too lazy to count rows on a sock leg but I do count the rows on the cuff so I know the second one is the same. If you want to count up your rows in pattern, count the number of repeats you have done and then multiply that by the number of rows in the repeat. Voila! This also comes in to play when you get to the toe but we can talk about that later. Knit on!
That bit between the leg and the foot always feels like a magic trick to me. I’ve made tons of socks and I still am positively shocked when it works.
As someone who was previously a 4 year old girl who loved purple, I feel confident in assuring you that it is a lifelong commitment. Everything I had was purple–my teddy bear, my bedroom carpet, all the accents in the room, etc. etc. etc. I even ordered black cherry ice cream at Friendly’s because it was purple. She will love it forever
Thanks! Very helpful. I also scratched around on YouTube and found this.
If you use the closed captions on You tube you can really get the hang of knitting skills.
20 years ago I learned to knit. Stopped for about 10 years, and have picked it up again. I have been very prolific. The reason I wanted to learn to knit was so I could have a pair (or 2) of warm wool socks that would fit my feet–custom if you will. Since that time I have knit everyone in my family at least one, if not 2 pair of socks–From Kate Atherly’s book Custom Socks. Did I mention everyone in my family–except me! Well, that is about to change. TODAY. I start my socks today! June 1, 2020–Here we Goooooo! PS – using yarn I bought for myself which I love! My motto for 2020 “I have it. I love it. I use it.”
6 Inches including the cuff seems to be the best. KJT211 said go rogue so I did and tried the sock on! I’m ready to move forward with the mind bending portion of the sock.
Thank you so much for your words of encouragement.
Sue
