Socks and Blocks Knitalong 2020

Yay! Super excited to be here! My first online knitalong and my first time in the lounge and my first yarn and first book from MDK and…woot! Except my yarn’s not here yet. That’s OK, I’ve got a cowl going as background knitting.

I’m doing socks for the first time and I can’t wait to get started. I have big ankles and calves, so I’m going to do some math today to make sure they fit, lol.

I took your suggestion and went rogue. I’m also going to write down your calculations for counting the rows when doing patterns. LOL my pattern in this case had been fun but inconsistent so hard to count. So the general rule in my world is if you make the mistake or change more than twice its part of the design that’s a bit like the mistake rule if you can’t see it on a galloping horse. Anyway back to the the trying on the sock I did it! I took the plunge and it fits plus it’s ready for the next mystical sock phase. Heel Flap. I’ll finish the repeat and forge on to the next step! Thanks so much for the advice and the encouragement.

Hi, welcome…forge ahead. I also have large ankles and calves with small feet. You can do this especially with so much support in the Lounge.

Dont’ they say Purple is someone who loves language? I remember seeing it refer to a specific area of learning, but kindof forgot the right one. I could be off. d

A most excellent motto and congratulations on beginning socks for you!

I’m just putting my stake in the ground here. I’m knitting socks. One at a time. I actually learned two at a time but I’m going to try this way.
Whooohooo! It’s an adventure

Don’t know if anyone replied to you yet. On the 2nd B stripe it should read Row 1 (WS) instead of (RS). I hope this helps.

I’ve pulled my stash together and hope to have a deep stack of new dishcloths!

I’m excited. I have 8 blocks done, one with an accent color. I was doing another project that I finished. I think I will cast on some socks too. I need to take a break from the cotton every now and then. Also contemplating carpal tunnel surgery so we will see…

Welcome aboard! If you have any questions about customizing your socks, make sure you post them. There are a lot of people here who will be happy to help.

Welcome! Fingers crossed that your yarn shows up soon! That cowl is so cool–I hadn’t seen that pattern before. Are you doing the lining in a different color?

Nell! That is a Smithsonian-level archive there. The thing I find with dishcloths is that there is no combination that doesn’t look great. Please test my theory!

Hello! I’d like to join in the knit-along. I’m working on a log cabin throw in squares. At some point I’ll have to figure out how to join them. I’m a knitter, with very limited crochet skills.

I’m about 1/3 of the way into a top down sock that I started when I read about the KAL. I’m using an orphan skein of Mad Tosh twist light that I’ve had all of this century.

Does the lounge intersect with the Ravelry group? Or do I choose one venue and stick with it?

Also I “replied” because I do not see how to start a fresh post in the thread!

Also, photos. I’ll work on that next.

I started out knitting 5" leg length (per the Yarn Harlot), without realizing that when you wear the socks, the width of your leg will make them shorter. Also, I’m a good bit taller than Steph! (Not quite as tall as Ann.)

I experimented and eventually decided 7-1/2" is perfect for me. I ALWAYS have at least two pair of socks OTN - not sure why, but I just love knitting them… I don’t think I ever knit a pair I didn’t like.

Hi there- I’m joining in the Picket Fences for sure, and maybe socks eventually. It’s a coincidence that I decided around the 20th of May that I wanted to knit my 2nd PF out of hand spun, and I got started. Then I saw a post that this KAL would be happening! So hopefully it is okay to have already started (looks like I’m not alone, from perusing the thread:)

I don’t have enough of one color for the background, so will be using neutrals and contrast. Here’s (hopefully), a photo of my first completed panel. I started the 2nd last night.

This just arrived today. I had a lot of tech problems with the lounge, but it looks like I’m in.
This is the first field guide I’ve purchased and I’m pleased with the handy little format.
My name’s Patty. Hi all.
