Joining my first knit along with Spud and Chloe. Love knitting socks.
That is gorgeous! I have lots of my own handspun and always thinking about ways to show them off, this is a great idea.
Ok so Iām in starting my first pair of socks have yarn and circular needles 1 pair plus the field guide ā¦ have a challenge with double pointed needles so am going to try magic loop technique ā¦ recommendations on best way to learn this technique??? Thanks
Iām in!! Itās my first time joining a KAL so Iām happy to be here. I learned to knit socks last fall when I was dealing with kidney stones and it saved my sanity! Here we go!
Early start on my socks. Iāve never done a toe up sock before. It took a couple of triesā¦
Seeded rib in Halloween Party
I always have sock knitting going on so this will be fun! Yarn is from Must Stash when they had colorways for many of the National Parks, this one is for the Great Smoky Mountains. Since I recently moved to western NC seemed appropriate. These are for me, I like the leg part long.
Iām in! This is my first MDK KAL, and Iād like to do some scrappy helical socks, taking inspiration from Kayās beautiful red and aqua pair last year. Iāve just received the Field Guide and looked up Jen Arnall-Cullifordās Helical Stripes Tutorial: https://www.masondixonknitting.com/go-year-techniques-begins/
Iāll be back to share progress when Iāve made some. And in the meantime, Iāll admire and be inspired by the work of others:-)
Happy knitting, everyone!!
Wendy
Thanks so much!
Ok I knitted socks for my daughter and thought I was done! WRONG- the bind off was so tight she couldnāt get the bloody thing onā¦so itās in the āhave to fixā - Iāll start w this fix for the Knitalong. I hope itās not cheating!
Introduced my cat to my yarn winder, so I ended up with one wound and one hand wound ball - which was convenient for starting one sock on each needle ā¦ after much deliberation decided on cuff down. This yarn is souvenir yarn from my stash but canāt say for sure if itās from Chicago or NOLA
Finished the WIP pair I discovered when I organized my craft room. I bought the yarn for something else and didnāt like how it was knitting up, then decided I should do something with it so I started the socks. Didnāt like how that was knitting up either so it languished. Chroma by KnitPicksābeautiful colors, but too much thick and thin. Then my 9 yo grandson saw them and wanted some āhomeā socks to wear as slippers, so he chose this mystery yarn from my stash. Also started a pair of Sisterās United Socks out of Carol Stollenās āNuaā and āFeliceā by Malabrigo.
Thank you, Ann, for posting āWhy Join a KAL.ā First time I have felt excited, upbeat, or inspired in weeks! I just joined the Lounge. As soon as I finish my coffee I am heading out to excavate abandoned sock projects and prioritize them. I have a mission!
Oh yay!!! I wanted to cheat and make Log Cabin Squares, too! Actually, I have 27 squares done so far (need 35 for the current blanket). I just want to knit Log Cabin squares forever!
Ann wrote about knitting a sock they called the sleeping bag this morning. This Link below is for a pattern that includes a how to for measuring your foot, your swatch and calculating the right numbers to knit a custom fit. She lays this out, so it is pretty easy.
It is for two at a time, but the first bit about calculating size is for any sock.
Valuable tips on gauge
I like the twisted rib too. Use it for fingerless mitts cuffs!
What a lovely idea! I did cast on a pair of socks, a few weeks back, then realized the size will be too big because I donāt have the right needles for it. I was going to start over, with less stitches and lost my momentum. I am grateful for this kickstart!
I recently purchased 52 Weeks and want to knit many of the patterns it holds. Letās see how many I can accomplish by Labor day.
@Pollyanna I too am challenged by dpnās. Luv magic loop; great YouTube tutorial from Purl Soho! Itās from Dec. 2017 (sorry, I donāt know how to link!)
so you kept going with a long panel, rather than knit/sew individual ones together?? brilliant! I have 6 blocks completed but the knitting together is a bit tedious.
